Retreat

I recently received an invitation to possibly speak at a retreat for teenage girls in my home state of West Virginia. Finally I get a chance to speak to people who talk like I do. (ha ha) It's like going home. My heart broke when I read the email from the youth leader. You can tell that she is really carrying a burden for the young girls and their stuggles. I am praying that everything falls into place. We know that this is something that Satan doesn't want to see happen and will try to discourage those involved.

It seems that it has definately been a theme this week...teenage girls and their struggles. I was encouraged by a conversation I had with a senior high gal this week. She was telling me how her eyes were opened by something that she heard a speaker say about self-image. Her friends and her decided to begin a "no make-up friday." On fridays, they don't wear any make-up and do not use electricity to fix their hair on Fridays. They come to school like this and they encourage each other throughout the day. This may seem trivial to some...but it is a big step to a teenage girl. I am thankful for the model that they are setting for their younger peers. I asked myself if I could do this at my age. Could I show up to teach without make-up. I have to think about that one...could you?
